Study English and Spanish Law in London and Barcelona
King's College London and Universitat Pompeu Fabra have announced a new course that will allow students to qualify in English and Spanish law, obtaining both an LLB and its Spanish equivalent, el Grado de Derecho.
The first two years of the four-year course will be spent in London at The Dickson Poon School of Law, with the final two years being spent in Barcelona at UPF’s Faculty of Law. Applications are open now, with the course beginning in the 2019-20 academic year.
Professor Maurici Pérez from the Faculty of Law at UPF highlighted the importance of the two judicial systems in which the course will allow students to specialise: “The dual programme will bridge two major judicial systems: the common law, used in England, Wales and former British colonies, as well as in the major states of the US – all of which are based on judicial developments refined by English courts — and continental law, based in Roman law, which governs a majority of countries in Europe, Latin America and many Asian countries.”
Professor Robert Wintemute from The Dickson Poon School of Law also emphasised the way in which the course continues to strengthen the School’s global partnerships and curriculum. “King’s College London has a great deal of experience in this type of programme with universities of the first order, like Paris II Pantheón-Assas, Humboldt in Berlin and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. We lacked a partner in Spain, but in the UPF we have found the perfect candidate.”
