Take a creative break with Make Do Play weekly challenges
Amy Brown, Projects Manager - Student Engagement, Culture
Make Do Play encourages staff and students in the #KingsCulturalCommunity to take part in creative activities for their wellbeing.
Make Do Play is an annual programme which encourages staff and students in the #KingsCulturalCommunity to take part in creative activities for their wellbeing. With many people spending increasingly more time at home, physically distanced or in isolation, keeping active, connected and stimulated is high on everyone's agenda. While in-person activities may have stopped for the time being, our regular creative prompts are still carrying on, challenging the #KingsCulturalCommunity to take time out during the week to engage in creative activities. Prompts are designed for staff and students of all abilities, and can be done with regular household items, so why not have a go at our most recent prompt below, and sign up to receive future ideas.
View from your Window 🔭
Prompt Ingredients: Paper, pen/ pencil /colouring materials
For many of us stuck in isolation, windows are an important connection to the outside world. This week's prompt is about taking time to really look at a view which we might see every day.
1) Look out of your window and, timing yourself, write down as many different things you can see in 2 minutes. Be descriptive: wobbly brick, dirty glass, purple flower, spiky plant. If you think you have run out of things - keep looking, there will be more!
2) Pick 5 things from your list and do an illustration of each one. Use whatever materials you have to hand, pens, colouring pencils, glue, collage materials etc. Be as creative as you want but again, really focus on that object - spend time looking at the colour, texture, shape, shadows and anything else you notice.
3) How did it feel to spend two minutes really looking? Did you notice anything you have not seen before? Did you enjoy drawing the objects?
Stretch prompt
Why not take this one step further and do a full drawing of the view from your window. See if you can see anything new!
We would love to see what you have created, share your 'view from your window' with @CulturalKings on Twitter or Instagram under #MakeDoPlay
