King’s College London said: “Following the violent protest which halted a student society event on Monday 5 March, where a group of protesters forced their way into the building, threatening and injuring a number of our staff and students, we have taken the decision to postpone, until the end of term, any scheduled events deemed to be ‘high risk’ after our risk assessment process. This short pause will allow our frontline staff time to recover and provide an opportunity to review how we safely manage events of this nature going forward.

This is not a change in policy. We continue to promote freedom of expression within the law and the right to peaceful protest. Providing an environment for open and uncensored debate on issues, even when controversial and conflicting views are likely to be aired, is an integral way that King’s can create an open and inspiring place to learn. These events should absolutely be able to take place without fear of violence and intimidation.

The many other events organised by King’s and student societies will go ahead as planned.”
