I look forward to bringing the new skills and opportunities back to dental students at King’s, and to continue to build on our relationship with dental students across Europe, particularly in the current political climate.”

The European Dental Students' Association meeting
Attended by King's dentistry students
The members of the EDSA discuss topics including dental education, dental research, volunteer work, the exchange program and of course politics within dentistry. The Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences has two elected representatives to present the views of students within the faculty and continue to forge links with Europe.
This year, King's EDSA junior rep, BDS3 student Jitesh Jassal and the senior EDSA Rep, Sameer Rao BDS4, attended the meeting held in Berlin late August.
The pair took part in many initiatives including a working group on sustainability. This hot topic was also was raised at the Association for Dental Education in Europe Annual Meeting which was also held in Berlin at the same time. At the student session they discussed and assessed the impact they have as dental students and as a profession. The discussions will be collated into a policy paper which they hope will be passed onto the EU Commission.
Jitesh and Sameer also took part in roundtable discussions on the theme of sugar and nutrition and their impact on dentistry, hosted by guests from the ADEE and CED (Council of European Dentists). Jitesh asked the panel how dental students in the UK, and particularly London, can improve and reduce the impact.
The week was of course packed full of lectures, training and workshops making it a very intense time.
