Two PhD alumni make Capital magazine's '40 under 40 list'
King’s Business School PhD alumni Dr Malte Susen and Dr Luka Gebel feature on Germany’s influential Capital Magazine 40 under 40 list. First started in 2007, the list aims to identify the country’s top young talent making an impact in their fields.

Dr Malte Susen’s PhD at King’s Business School examined the strategic value of strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance. He now combines his academic work as module co-lead at University College London’s Global Business School for Health with a career in finance. His professional expertise spans capital markets, technology, and sustainable infrastructure. Dr Susen has led investment strategy and capital structuring for energy-transition and next-generation infrastructure firms, including serving as CFO of a European battery-technology investor. Earlier in his career, he worked in international investment funds and in investment banking.
Following an MSc in Strategic Entrepreneurship and Innovation and PhD at King’s Business School, Dr Gebel joined the Global Business School for Health at UCL as Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Strategy & Entrepreneurship. His PhD built on interests gained through a role at the Milner Therapeutics Institute and his research focuses on the mixed-method study of innovation management and technology.
Dr Gebel’s work on the practices driving innovation at a so-called Nobel Prize factory, the Cambridge Laboratory of Molecular Biology renowned laboratory has been published in journals such as Nature.
