Volunteers build a better future at King's
‘Service to society’ is the founding principle of King’s College London. And, every year, members of our alumni community demonstrate that ethos is alive and well. Long after they’ve left our institution, many choose to volunteer their time to build a better future.

In the last 12 months, 1,102 people have given 9760 hours to a variety of initiatives and causes that benefit our student and alumni bodies, and our wider communities. In financial terms, the value of this contribution amounts to £111,654.
For those who benefit from this, however, the value is often priceless. Behind this impressive set of figures are many diverse stories of why many different people choose to give back in this way.
Volunteers supporting students

One key area that our alumni volunteers massively contribute to is helping the next generation of our students and alumni. We have several different schemes allowing our marvellous mentors to support our mentees at different levels. These include:
- Let’s Chat: A scheme that matches volunteer mentors with recent graduates for a one-off careers conversation online.
- Mentoring Meet-ups: Face-to-face events where alumni mentors meet students and recent graduates to offer industry insights, CV tips and interview advice.
- Leaderships Mentoring Programme: Students are hand-matched with experienced alumni for a six-month mentoring journey.
But there are many other events where our alumni volunteers contribute towards making the world a better place and inspiring the next generation. This year, these have included faculty speed networking evenings, career panels highlighting diverse sectors and being role models to Year 9 students at the King’s Scholars Fair.
Alumni community volunteers

King’s is proud of its London roots and we have 35,000 alumni based in the capital of England. Our London and UK volunteers run alumni groups such as the King’s College London Dental Alumni Association, the Bar & Mooting Society and the King’s College London Engineers’ Association.
With 220,000+ alumni in 195 countries, our graduate community is truly global. We have active alumni leaders and committees on five continents. Countries include Argentina, Azerbaijan, Canada, China, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Malaysia, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Singapore, Spain, UAE, the United States and many more.
These committees and leaders create opportunities for networking and building a lifelong connection to King’s. Alumni also inspire future students by sharing their experience at offer-holder events around the world.
Global Day of Service

We mark our Global Day of Service every year in March. This acts as a focal point where we celebrate the volunteering activities of our alumni community, who give their time throughout the year to support worthy causes in their local communities.
A huge thank you

‘The far-reaching impact of our alumni who give up their time to help others remains truly inspiring,’ says Abbey Cameron, our Alumni Volunteer Manager at King’s College London. ‘From mentoring and nurturing the next generation of King’s graduates, to donating their time to support community causes, they continue to make the world a better place.’
