King's recognised in Birthday Honours

The Queen’s Birthday Honours were announced on 14 June with a number of people associated with King’s College London being recognised, including an OBE for Irene Higginson, Professor of Palliative Care and Policy.
Professor Higginson, who is also Head of the Department of Palliative Care, Policy and Rehabilitation in the School of Medicine was awarded an OBE for services to medicine. In February this year the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, launched The Cicily Saunders Institute of Palliative Care at the Denmark Hill Campus. The Institute will be the first international academic institute in the world to focus specifically on palliative care research, dissemination and teaching, linked to clinical care.
Donna Kinnair (PGDip in Healthcare Ethics, 1999 and donor to the College), Director of Clinical Leadership, at Southwark Primary Care Trust, was made a Dame for services to nursing in London.
Stuart Bell, Chief Executive of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, was awarded a CBE for services to healthcare
Michael Kennedy (Law, 1995) Chief Operating Officer, Crown Prosecution Service, lately President & UK National Member of Eurojust
Peter Noyce, former member of staff, now Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Manchester, was awarded a CBE for services to healthcare
Michael Nyman (MMus, 1971) composer, musician and critic, was awarded a CBE for services to music.
Roger Bland (BA Classics, 1978) Head, Department of Portable Antiquities and Treasure, British Museum, was awarded an OBE for services to heritage
Henry Bragg (BPharm Pharmacy, 1950 and donor to the College) was awarded an OBE services to the community in East Kent
Dr Harriet Crabtree (BD AKC, Theology & Religious Studies, 1981) Director, Inter Faith Network for the UK, was awarded an OBE for services to community relations
The Marchioness of Douro (English, 1981) President of the Guinness Trust, was awarded an OBE for voluntary services to social housing
Professor Robert McClelland (Institute of Psychiatry) Consultant Psychiatrist, Belfast City
Hospital and Emeritus Professor of Mental Health, Queen's University Belfast, was awarded an OBE for services to medicine
Richard Orrin (BSc Geography, 1968) Senior Policy Adviser, Aviation Security,
Department for Transport.
Dr Sheila Filshie JP (MBBS, 1966) retired, was awarded an MBE for services to the administration of justice in Nottinghamshire
Bernard Sinclair (BPharm, 1950) retired, was awarded an MBE for voluntary service to Redbridge Jewish Youth and Community Centre, London.
Colonel William (War Studies, 1995) Late Royal Regiment of Fusiliers was awarded a CBE.
