I am a PhD student of Comparative Literature, supported by the London Arts & Humanities Partnership. My research is on South Asian travel writing to Britain, particularly focussing on Muslims in the mid-nineteenth century. I am interested in questions of travel, experience, translation, world literature, empire, literary circulation, colonial education and institutions, Islam, Urdu and Persian literature, archives, and the nineteenth century more broadly. This includes thinking about the impact of travel not only on individuals and texts, but also larger concepts of identity, self-fashioning, and the afterlives of such interactions that take place, and their legacies today. I interrogate ideas of knowledge production by looking more closely at personal archives hitherto unexplored in English academia, and bringing them to bear on established lines of inquiry.   I am a translator of Urdu and English, and have trained professionally at the Centre of Advanced Study of Urdu at the Aligarh Muslim University, India. I have consulted on English-Urdu translation and captioning for UK-based theatre companies. I am committed towards inclusion and access, and work as a mentor with SSGSA. I have also worked with community groups towards understanding colonial legacies of national monuments, such as St Paul's Cathedral (2022-23). Prior to joining King's, I was a Commonwealth Masters' Scholar at SOAS University of London, and had read for an MA and BA at the Aligarh Muslim University.
