Biography

Akchunya Chanchal is a PhD Student in the Department of Informatics, King's College London. He is a member of the UKRI Safe and Trusted AI (STAI) Center for Doctoral Training (CDT) and is an EPSRC Causality in Healthcare AI (CHAI) Scholar. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Computer Science at the American University of Sharjah, followed by a master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence at King’s College London, during which he received the award for “Best overall performance in examined units across all programs in the Department of Informatics”. Before joining King’s, Akchunya interned in Fintech firms in Singapore, where he built forecasting models.

His research focuses on addressing data and concept-drift for cross-domain generalizability, where he aims to utilise insights from causal explainability and causal representation learning to induce learning of causal mechanisms in order to attain more robust representations. Akchunya’s research is supported by an NMES faculty studentship.
