Biography

Alison is a Chartered Psychologist and Senior Lecturer in Work Psychology Education at King’s Business School. Her work sits at the intersection of work psychology, inclusive pedagogy, and management education. She is particularly interested in reimagining the teaching of quantitative research methods through psychologically informed approaches that promote belonging, equity, and agency in the student learning experience.

Alison’s research and scholarship focus on:

  • Inclusive pedagogy and approaches to decolonising and queering management education
  • Higher education institutions as sites of inequality and change
  • The role of digital technologies, including generative AI, in shaping management education and academic work

She is currently leading an initiative to diversify and decolonise management education across King’s Business School, for which she received the 2025 KBS Dean’s Catalyst for Change Award for Excellence in EDI.

Alison teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with a particular focus on research methods, statistics, and dissertation supervision. She currently teaches on Quantitative Data Analytics (Level 5), Capstone Dissertation (Level 6), HR Data and Analytics (Level 7), and HRM Dissertation (Level 7).

Alison completed her PhD in Management Studies at King’s in 2021. Before that, she worked as a business psychology consultant across private, public, and non-profit sectors, both in the UK and internationally. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE).

Dr McFarland is currently accepting new PhD students.
