Amelia Austin

PhD student King's International studentship

Biography

I joined King’s College London in 2018 as a research assistant in the Eating Disorders Research Group where I worked on the First Episode Rapid Early Intervention in Eating Disorders (FREED) initiative. This project aims to provide quick treatment to emerging adults with a recent onset eating disorder (https://freedfromed.co.uk). When this position came to a close, I transitioned to my current role as a PhD student. Under the guidance of eminent researcher and clinician Prof. Ulrike Schmidt, my thesis is investigating the role of developmental trajectories in first episode eating disorders.

Previous to my time at King’s I completed an MSc in Children and Young People’s Mental Health at the University of Edinburgh. While my current research focuses on eating disorders I am also passionate about related topics in child and adolescent psychology, such as attachment, adversity, and resilience.
