Biography

My PhD thesis at SOAS was on the literatures of Greece and Turkey inspired by the war of 1919-1922. I published some material on this subject in a chapter of the collective volume, When Greeks and Turks Meet (ed. Vally Lytra, Ashgate 2014). On a more contemporary note in 2015 I coedited with Eleni Yannakakis a collection of essays entitled, Critical Times Critical Thoughts Contemporary Greek Writers Discuss Facts and Fiction, in which leading Greek writers reflect on the crisis and its background.

I am currently revising my thesis for eventual publication and exploring new sources, some unpublished, that are relevant to the subject. The research facilities at King’s, particularly the Greek holdings of the Maughan Library and the academic staff of the Centre for Hellenic Studies provide the ideal place for this work.

My PhD thesis at SOAS was on the literatures of Greece and Turkey inspired by the war of 1919-1922 and its aftermath. I have lectured on this subject and published in collective volumes and periodicals (eg.Echoes across the National Divide). In 2022, the centenary year, I participated in an online panel discussion at King’s. I also contributed essays to the publications accompanying two major exhibitions in Athens, one at the Benaki Museum and the other, The Epic of Anatolia in the Greek Imagination, at the Gennadius Library of ASCSA which I co-curated with Natalia Vogeikoff-Brogan.

In revising my thesis for eventual publication, I have been working on an almost forgotten Turkish novel of refugeedom which I presented recently at a conference at the University of Thrace.
