Dr Andreina Marques-Mejias is a Clinical Research Fellow in Paediatric Allergy at King’s College London and works within the Children’s Allergy Service at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

Andreina’s research interests are in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of paediatric food allergy, with a particular focus on oral food challenges, basophil activation testing, food immunotherapy and the translation of clinical research into routine practice. She has worked on several major paediatric allergy studies, including EAT-On, the follow-up to the Enquiring About Tolerance study, and follow-up research related to the Learning Early About Peanut Allergy (LEAP) study. Her clinical trial experience includes peanut oral and epicutaneous immunotherapy.

She contributes to the Stopping Eczema and Allergy study, which investigates whether early skin-barrier intervention can help prevent food allergy, and she helped develop a real-world clinical pathway for children transitioning from peanut immunotherapy trials to continued peanut consumption in routine practice.

Dr Marques-Mejias completed her medical degree at Universidad Central de Venezuela and undertook specialist training in Allergy at Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid. She completed her PhD in Paediatric Allergy at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where her research examined bronchospasm and acute urticaria in children attending the emergency department and the impact of environmental factors. She undertook laboratory research in allergy and immunology at Northwestern University in Chicago.

Dr Marques-Mejias has published widely in paediatric and clinical allergy, with research spanning food allergy, allergy diagnostics, eczema and skin-directed prevention, drug allergy, asthma, bronchospasm and urticaria. She co-authored the European guidelines and systematic reviews on the diagnosis of IgE-mediated food allergy and is a member of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Food Allergy Guidelines Expert Group.
