Anwen Howells is Research Strategy and Partnerships Manager at King’s College London, leading the development of strategic, interdisciplinary research initiatives in emerging areas of institutional priority. Anwen has a PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Oxford and a background spanning academic research, research funding and university research strategy.

Working across King’s and closely with senior academic and professional leadership, Anwen shapes new research priorities and translates them into coordinated institutional activity. Her work spans horizon scanning and strategic analysis, the development of cross-university initiatives, interdisciplinary community-building, and strategy development and planning for the delivery and progression of new initiatives. She works closely with colleagues across research, innovation and other professional teams to connect emerging research priorities with relevant expertise, opportunities and partnerships, and provides strategic advice and evidence to support senior-level decision-making and university governance.

Before joining King’s in 2024, Anwen worked across research strategy and funding at UCL and Cancer Research UK, most recently as a Strategic Research Facilitator at UCL and, before that, as a Research Funding Manager at Cancer Research UK.

Anwen began her career in academic research, working as a postdoctoral researcher at Queen Mary University of London after completing her PhD in Medical Sciences at the University of Oxford. She holds an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Warwick.
