Biography
Aoife Bowman Grangel is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King's College London.
Aoife joined the ESRC Centre for Society and Mental Health in February 2026 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate on the Resilience, Ethnicity, and AdolesCent Mental Health (REACH) Project. Aoife is also involved in developing the School Mental Health Innovation Network, a collaborative initiative aiming to improve mental health outcomes and support for young people across South London.
Aoife’s research primarily explores how early life stressful experiences influence physical and mental health across the lifespan. She is particularly interested in the social determinants of health, with a focus on gender inequalities and their implications for adolescent mental health and wellbeing.
Prior to joining King’s, Aoife completed her PhD at the Department of Psychology at the University of Limerick. Her research employed mixed methods to explore the physical and mental health of young carers in Ireland. Aoife has collaborated with colleagues internationally, including in Australia and Italy, to investigate the health implications of caregiving in early life. She is also a founding member of the Irish Young Carers Research Network, a multidisciplinary network working to improve support services and outcomes for young carers in Ireland.
Aoife is passionate about using population-level data to improve health outcomes and services for young people.
