Biography

Dr Argyro Syngelaki is a Reader in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at King’s College London and a Specialist Consultant Midwife in Fetal Medicine at the Harris Birthright Research Centre for Fetal Medicine at King’s College Hospital, London UK. Argyro is also the Research and Innovation Lead for Fetal Medicine and Women’s Health at King’s College Hospital and an Expert member of the UK National Research Ethics Committee serving on the London-Dulwich Committee.

She gained her BSc in Midwifery from the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece in 2006. In 2008, Argyro joined the team of Professor Nicolaides at King’s College Hospital and completed her fellowship in Fetal Medicine with a grant from the Fetal Medicine Foundation. Whilst working in Fetal Medicine and doing research at Kings, Argyro obtained two PhD degrees; one on Diabetes and Obesity in pregnancy from Utrecht University, The Netherlands and one on Screening for pregnancy complications at 11-13 weeks’ gestation from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK.

Argyro’s career has been devoted to maternal and fetal medicine research with the mentorship and support of Professor Kypros Nicolaides. Her interests include prediction and prevention of adverse pregnancy outcomes including preeclampsia, stillbirth and gestational diabetes mellitus and screening for fetal defects. She has published more than 220 peer reviewed papers in prestigious international journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine.
