Biography
Dr Ayan Das is an accomplished computer science researcher specializing in machine learning and generative modelling. He currently serves as an AI+ Senior Fellow at King’s College London, where he is affiliated with the TAIR Lab in Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences. His work bridges the gap between deep mathematical theory and impactful real-world applications in artificial intelligence.
Dr Das has a robust background spanning both high-impact corporate research and rigorous academia. Prior to his current fellowship at King’s College London, he worked as a Research Scientist at Huawei Research UK, driving industry-focused AI innovation. His professional trajectory also includes valuable industry experience at MediaTek.
He successfully defended his PhD at the University of Surrey, UK, where his doctoral research laid a strong foundation for his expertise in advanced machine learning frameworks. Dr Das’s research interests primarily revolve around the theoretical and applied dimensions of Deep Generative Models. He is particularly focused on the mechanics of Diffusion Models, flow matching, score functions, and Langevin dynamics. In addition to generative modelling, his research portfolio features significant contributions to machine learning applications for digital graphics, such as semantic segmentation of creative sketches and vector graphics generation. An active contributor to the global AI community, Dr Das regularly publishes his findings in premier peer-reviewed venues and specialized workshops. His notable publications include works in Transactions on Machine Learning Research (TMLR), NeurIPS and other top-tier AI conferences. Alongside his research, he is passionate about making complex AI concepts accessible, frequently authoring technical deep-dive blogs/tutorials for the broader research community.
