Biography

Barnie is a Seminar Leader (Graduate Teaching Assistant). He has taught at King's War Studies Department for the last 4 years in the subjects of Seapower, Empire and Strategy, Military Strategy, History of Modern warfare, and History of the International System. His current research examines the application of merit in the English Navy officer corps during the Interregnum (1649-1660).

After a career in technology in the reinsurance sector, he graduated with a Masters in Military History and Strategic Studies from Reading in 2015, studying under Colin Gray (for his BA), and latterly Beatrice Heuser. His Masters thesis focused on Cyber Warfare Strategy. He is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Greenwich, looking at the application of meritocracy in the Interregnum Navy officer corps was significant and impacted the long term culture of the service.
