Biography
Carla Menares (she/her) is a PhD student in the School of Education, Communication and Society at King’s College London. She holds a BA in English Language Teaching and an MA in Applied Linguistics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV), Chile.
Carla has worked as a Graduate Teaching Fellow at King’s, leading seminars for postgraduate students, and also as a research assistant on projects involving first and heritage language processing in the UK. In addition, Carla has experience as a teacher of English in secondary and higher education. She has worked as a teacher educator in Chile, where she taught English Grammar courses to future teachers of English. She has also taught Spanish to international students and healthcare trainees.
Thesis Title: Real-Time Processing of Gender Cues in Early L3 Acquisition
Her research interests include multilingualism and additional language acquisition, with a focus on morphosyntactic processing and online methods. Her current research, funded by the Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo (ANID), explores the intersection of online processing and third language (L3) acquisition. This project specifically examines the predictive processing of morphosyntactic cues in the early stages of L3 acquisition using eye-tracking technology.
