Biography
Christoph Henking is a postdoctoral researcher in the Programme for Work, Welfare Reform and Mental Health at the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine as well as the ESRC Centre for Society and Mental Health. He is a quantitative social scientist working at the intersection of health and social policy.
Christoph’s research focuses on the social and political determinants of mental health, with a particular interest in how social and labour market policies shape health inequalities. His work examines how working conditions affect mental health and what types of work may be protective for individuals with existing mental health problems in the workplace.
Further, his research has examined how benefit conditionality and sanctions affect the health of jobseekers across European countries, as well as inequalities in access to mental healthcare from a global perspective.
Christoph completed his PhD in the Department of Social Policy at Oxford University, and he also holds an MSc in Economic Psychology from the London School of Economics. Beyond his academic work, Christoph has worked with the WHO Regional Office for Europe, various government and public sector agencies in Germany, and the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford.
