Biography

My research is focused on sugars, sweeteners and vitamin C. I am interested in

  1. the mechanisms by which sugars and vitamin C are transported across the small intestine
  2. understanding the role the intestinal sugar sensor mechanisms (e.g.T1R2/3) in regulating sugar transport and incretin secretion
  3. identification of polyphenols that blunt post prandial glycemia and
  4. the metabolic effects of sugars and high intensity non-nutritive sweeteners.

To achieve my research goals I use in silico approaches (molecular docking, systematic review and meta-analysis) in vitro models of the gut (Caco-2, GLUT-ag cells) animal models (Xenopus oocytes, ZDF rat, mouse knockouts) and human interventional studies.
