Christopher da Silva

Lecturer in French Language Education

Biography

Christopher da Silva joined King’s College London Language Centre in 2025. He completed a BA in Modern Languages (English as a Second Language, 2009) and an MA in Second Language Acquisition (2013) at Université Blaise Pascal–Clermont II, France, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (2018) at the University of Durham, UK. He is currently undertaking an MSc in Blended and Online Education at Edinburgh Napier University. He speaks French and English and has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE) since 2015.

As a Lecturer in French Language Education at King’s College London, Christopher teaches across a range of programmes and contributes to curriculum development within the Language Centre. His teaching is informed by research in second language acquisition and focuses on supporting students’ academic development through structured, learner-centred and technology-enhanced approaches.

His professional interests include blended and online learning, innovative language pedagogy, and the integration of digital tools to support student engagement and progression in higher education. He is particularly interested in designing learning experiences that promote autonomy and academic confidence among language learners.

Pastoral support is an integral part of his role. Christopher provides academic guidance and individual support to students, helping them navigate the challenges of language learning in a university context.

Prior to joining King’s, he taught at the University of Durham and the University of Essex. His experience across institutions informs his reflective teaching practice and ongoing commitment to high standards in teaching and learning.

Research, Scholarly projects and Academic Awards

Christopher is an active member of several academic networks, such as FLEUR (https://fleurnetwork.org/). He is currently leading the Special Interest Group dedicated to technologies used for a pedagogical purpose.
