
Biography
Cyril Bastanès joined King’s College London Language Centre in 2018. He completed a Licence Langue, Littérature et Civilisation Étrangère – Anglais, parcours Français Langue Étrangère at the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, France (2006), and a Master 1 Français Langue Étrangère at the same institution in 2007. He speaks French and English.
Cyril designs and delivers French language courses across a wide range of programmes, including undergraduate and postgraduate courses, short courses, the Doctoral Training Programme, tailor-made classes, as well as collaborative modules with the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the London Business School. He teaches a diverse cohort of students, from complete beginners to advanced speakers.
His teaching approach places strong emphasis on student engagement, cultural awareness, and inclusion, with a focus on creating a positive and supportive learning environment that promotes confidence and participation.
Research, Scholarly projects and Academic Awards
Cyril has contributed to a number of pedagogical and digital innovation projects, including:

Learn French for Global Communication – co-creation of an online French course in collaboration with Jérôme Bertherat.

Development of a digital platform to support and encourage teacher collaboration, in partnership with Miguel I. García Tarifa.

Ongoing research into the impact of communities of practice on professional development, in collaboration with European universities from the Circle U. alliance.

Active member of the CIEL TASK Working Group, reviewing the use of formative assessment.
