Biography
Dan Butcher is Interim Director of Research Governance, Ethics & Integrity within the Research Management & Innovation Directorate at King’s College London. In this role, he provides strategic leadership across the University’s research governance, ethics, integrity and international regulations functions, supporting the delivery of high-quality, responsible and internationally collaborative research.
With over a decade of experience in research governance and ethics at King’s, he has led the development and implementation of policies, processes and assurance arrangements that enable researchers to navigate complex ethical, regulatory and governance requirements while maintaining appropriate standards of oversight and compliance. He works closely with academic colleagues, professional services teams, NHS partners, funders and external stakeholders across a wide range of disciplines and research settings.
Before entering higher education, Dan ran his own retail business. Since joining King’s in a faculty-based research support role, he has held a range of professional services positions, progressing to senior leadership. His experience across different areas and levels of the organisation has given him a broad perspective on the opportunities and challenges of supporting world-leading research, from the day-to-day realities of research support to the strategic leadership of university-wide functions.
