Research Associate, Developmental Neurobiology

Biography

Davood is a Research Associate in the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King's College London, with direct collaboration with the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences and MeTrICS Lab, working on the Gen2020 project.

His research bridges computational mechanics with developmental neuroscience, focusing on finite element simulation of cortical folding and brain developmental analysis. He develops subject-specific biomechanics models of early brain morphogenesis, combining high-performance computing with neuroimaging data from the developing Human Connectome Project (dHCP).

Before joining King's, Davood worked at Tufts University, USA, on magnetoelasticity and soft tissues. He completed his PhD at the University of Glasgow (2025), where he worked on magnetoelastic instabilities of soft solids — variational formulations, bifurcation analysis, and finite element implementation.

Prior to his doctoral studies, he built an extensive publication record in nonlocal continuum mechanics of micro- and nanostructures, including functionally graded materials, graphene composites, and wave propagation. He has been recognised in Stanford University's Top 2% Most Influential Scientists ranking for five consecutive years, with over 50 publications, 3,600 citations, an h-index of 36, and over 10 invited talks. Davood holds international research experience and is active in computational mechanics, applied mathematics, soft materials and tissues, machine learning for biomechanics, and multi-scale and multi-physics problems.
