Dr Elizabeth Appiah-Kusi

Research Fellow

Biography

Elizabeth started at King's as an MSc student in 2009 and has worked in the Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences and Psychosis Studies departments and completed both her PhD and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at King's. She is now working as a Research Fellow in Professor Sir John Strang's group working on opioid overdose studies and the PRET study, aiming to improve continuity of care for prison leavers on opiate substitute treatment.

Elizabeth completed her PhD under the supervision of Professor Sagnik Bhattacharyya, Professor Philip McGuire and Professor Valeria Mondelli. Her PhD was titled: 'Psychosis, stress and cannabinoids'. Her DClin thesis was titled: 'The role of appraisals in the links between trauma exposure and psychotic like experiences in young people' supervised by Dr Suzanne Jolley, Dr Cedric Ginestet and Dr Tim Meynen.

Elizabeth also works as a Clinical Psychologist at Lambeth Drug and Alcohol Service.

Teaching

Elizabeth co-leads the treatment and practice module on the Addictions MSc and provides teaching on Motivational Interviewing, dual diagnosis, formulation and risk assessment.
