Dr Evren Raman is a Lecturer (Education) in Psychology in the Department of Psychology at King’s College London. His research spans psychological research methods, computational and quantitative psychology, psychometrics and measurement, mental health, social and developmental psychology, and higher education.

A central strand of his research examines how psychological constructs are conceptualised and measured, with particular interests in scale development and validation, latent-variable modelling, structural equation modelling and the application of advanced quantitative methods to psychological and educational research.

His mental health research has focused particularly on borderline personality disorder (BPD), including public knowledge and mental health literacy, stigma and social distance, familiarity and contact, diagnostic labelling, and the ways in which diagnosis can shape identity and social experience.

His work also examines how BPD is discussed and understood in online environments, using social-media and computational approaches to investigate diagnostic narratives, stigma, identity and meaning-making. More recently, this work has extended to developing more robust and comprehensive measures of BPD-specific knowledge, attitudes and stigma.

Evren’s wider research has included work on personal values, social attitudes and individual differences, as well as cross-cultural and developmental research examining the relationships between values, educational outcomes, gender stereotypes and educational aspirations. This has included research involving children and young people across different cultural and educational contexts.

A further strand of his work focuses on higher education. His research examines statistics anxiety, students’ attitudes towards research and quantitative methods, research self-efficacy, educational inequalities and awarding gaps, and the development of evidence-based approaches to research-methods education.

Alongside this work, Evren researches the role of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in higher education. He is particularly interested in AI literacy, critical and responsible AI use, measuring students’ and educators’ AI capabilities, and evaluating AI-supported teaching and assessment.

Across these areas, his work is characterised by a strong methodological focus and an interest in using rigorous measurement and quantitative analysis to address substantive questions in psychology, mental health and education.
