DNA Analyst
Biography
Federica Giangasparo is a Forensic Scientist in the UKAS accredited ISO17025 DNA analysis @ King’s laboratory part of King’s Forensics. Her responsibilities lie in the management of the laboratory core functions. Furthermore, Federica is a part-time PhD student in Forensic Genetics and her research area of interest is the investigation of companion animal genetics, specifically the investigation of canine DNA for the determination of their breed of origin.
Federica is fully involved in the department life, for which she covers the role of Health and Safety officer while also driving the sustainability initiative in the department that allowed all laboratories in AEFS to win the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) Gold award. Federica is also an active member of the community with her active outreach activities as STEM ambassador and a member of the British Academy of Forensic Sciences (BAFS) and the International Society for Forensic Genetics (ISFG). Federica also holds the title of Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and is committed to teaching, contributing to the delivery and planning of the Forensic Biology module in the MSc in Forensic Science course and the online Science behind Forensic Science MOOC.
