Biography

Francisco is a PhD/MPhil candidate at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, funded by the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre.

Francisco has experience working in mixed methods research to explore the relationship between mental and physical health. He obtained an MSc in Health Psychology at University College London where his research focus was on cancer survivors, funded by the FCDO’s Chevening Scholarship. 

With experience as a Research Assistant at the University of Costa Rica, he worked on diverse topics such as attachment theory under a cultural lens, political apologies across cultures, and child’s eating behaviours. He was also a Teaching Assistant at the same university in the Health Psychology module, where he supervised students delivering psychoeducational workshops.

He has completed training in clinical psychology at the University of Costa Rica which included a placement at the cancer section of a third-level public hospital. With experience working in the international sector such as at UNESCO, Francisco developed mental health-related projects for Latin American journalists.
