Biography

Gemma Sparks is the Student Support Manager of Kings Business School. She develops, oversees, and reviews the provision of support for students in the faculty.

She focuses on individual student wellbeing cases and managing the faculty elements of formal student support processes such as Student of Concern, Support for Study, and disability inclusion. Gemma is also the liaison for central support services and provides expert advice to staff where students are experiencing difficulties, including signposting to specialist services and promoting awareness of these services among staff.

Gemma works on developing processes within the faculty for students in need and will provide training and guidance for staff and students alongside the existing formal processes to ensure that wellbeing support is clear and consistent for all Business School students. She works closely with personal tutors and faculty tutors, as well as the central student support services, in particular the Wellbeing Advisers, to coordinate communication.

Acting as the Faculty Disability Liaison and Faculty Safeguarding Officer, providing information and support to students and colleagues Gemma acts as a point of escalation for tutors and tutees.

Gemma, a registered BACP member, uses psychodynamic training to understand student needs. Her experience in support services includes working with homelessness, an eating disorder charity, and supported housing. In further and higher education, Gemma continues to pursue her passion for supporting young people who are estranged or have a background in care, through widening participation.
