Dr Georgina Starling

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Biography

George is a cell biologist post doc studying how brain cells repair themselves, an essential but still poorly understood process that can fail in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other dementias. She developed her interest in cell biology during her undergraduate degree at Oxford Brookes University and went on to work in several leading research environments, including King’s College London for her MSc project (Merit) and the University of Sheffield, where she completed her PhD.

She now works across the Francis Crick Institute, King’s College London, and UCL using live-cell imaging, CRISPR gene editing, and human stem-cell–derived neurons to investigate repair. Alongside her research, she is strongly engaged in science policy, communication, and inclusion.

She has won multiple presentation prizes, organised public-facing science events, and previously worked part-time at the House of Lords as a Parliamentary Research Intern through the King’s Parliamentary Research Internship scheme (2024–25).

She was the co-Lead of the FoSLM Research Staff Network (2024-2025) and is the Research Staff Representative of School of Cancer and Pharm. Sci., KCL as well also the Founder and Lead of School of Cancer and Pharm. Sci., KCL Research Staff Network.
