Gianna Fletcher is a PhD student in the Department of Engineering, King’s College London, enrolled in the CDT MM4L PhD under the supervision of Jeremy Green and Chris Lorenz.

Their research focuses on in vitro and in silico analysis of gastruloid self-organisation. Recently, gastruloids have provided a sufficient model for studying the process convergent extension, however Gianna aspires to use biological experiments to computationally model cellular trajectories, mechanical forces and signaling interactions that drive the elongation process.

They hold a BEng (Hons) in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Hull, with commercial experience in medical device development and implementation in the NHS. An undergraduate internship in prosthetics at Steeper sparked interest in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, further leading to undertaking an independent research project developing hydrogel bioink vascular constructs.

Gianna’s current research interests center in developmental biology, mechanobiology, stem cell fate and computational modelling.
