Dr Gilberto Jose Betancor Quintana

Research Associate

Biography

Gilberto received his BSc in Biology from Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2008 and then moved to the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa to complete his PhD under the supervision of Dr Luis Mendez Arias. During his PhD Gilberto focused on the molecular characterization of mutations developed in the viral reverse transcriptase associated with resistance to reverse transcriptase inhibitors. Gilberto joined the lab in February, 2014 and during this time he has been focusing in the biochemical and cellular characterization of the mechanism by which the cellular protein MX2 inhibits HIV-1 infection. His interests also encompass the study of proteins involved in the interaction with the viral capsid.
