Biography

Dr Hakkyoung Lee joined King’s College London Language Centre in 2024. She completed a BA in French Language and Literature (2004) at Kangwon National University, Chuncheon, South Korea, an MA in Education in Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language (2009) at Hanyang University, Seoul, South Korea, and a PhD in Korean Language Education (2023) at SOAS University of London, UK.

As a Lecturer in Korean Language Education at King’s College London, Dr Lee teaches Korean language modules at both undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (PGO) levels, as well as evening classes. She is actively involved in curriculum development, working collaboratively with the Korean teaching team to design syllabi, course materials, and online-based resources that support student learning.

She has over a decade of experience teaching Korean as a foreign language, having begun her teaching career in 2011. She has taught learners from beginner to advanced levels in both South Korea and the UK and has designed and delivered courses for a diverse range of learners, including scholarship recipients, immigrants, English teachers, and visiting students. In the UK, she previously worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at SOAS University of London, teaching BA Korean modules, evening courses through the SOAS Language Centre, and language classes at Imperial College London.

Alongside her teaching and research, Dr Lee contributes to curriculum innovation and the integration of digital learning tools. With a strong foundation in pedagogy, research, and technology-enhanced learning, she brings a dynamic and research-informed approach to Korean language education at King’s College London.
