Biography

Dr. Vulpe completed his medical studies at McGill University and his radiation oncology training at the University of Toronto. After his training, Dr. Vulpe served as Assistant Professor at Columbia University - NY Presbyterian Hospital, where he spearheaded the head and neck cancer program. He then joined the department at Queen’s Cancer Center in Honolulu, assuming the role of Director of Quality and Patient Safety. Motivated by a mission to enhance cancer care on a global scale, Dr. Vulpe emerged as a key figure in the oncology community within his native Romania and established research collaborations across sub-Saharan Africa.

With the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Dr. Vulpe shifted his focus toward humanitarian efforts, aiming to mitigate the suffering of Ukrainian cancer patients affected by the conflict. As Director of Cancer Care Programs at the Blue Heron Foundation, he orchestrated initiatives that ensured critical cancer treatments for refugees in Romania and Moldova. His leadership has been pivotal in providing care to over 170 Ukrainian refugees, which includes direct funding for treatments in the Republic of Moldova, comprehensive support in Romania, and coordination of medical evacuations from Ukraine.

Dr. Vulpe's international efforts have garnered him several accolades: the ASCO Global Oncology Young Investigator Award, recognition as a McGill Medicine Young Alumnus, the University of Toronto Radiation Oncology Alumnus of the Year, and the Robert Sheppard Award for Health Equity and Social Justice. As a fervent educator, he was named ‘2019 Educator of the Year’ by the American Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology. Currently, Dr. Vulpe practices with the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in California.
