Hugo joined King's in November 2025 to assist Dr Stephen Sharman working on a project with the National Gambling Clinic investigating the social and economic costs associated with gambling harms.

He has research experience in the fields of behavioural addictions, emotional validation, and social stigma, and two publications with Anglia Ruskin University. His clinical experience lies in eating disorders.
