Biography

Hyun Kyung Lee joined King's College London Language Centre in 2017. She completed her Korean Language and Literature Education BSc (1986) and her Korean Linguistics MSc (1990) at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, South Korea. 

Hyun Kyung Lee is a Lecturer in Korean Language Education. With a passion for linguistics and education, she teaches a diverse range of courses, including undergraduate modules, postgraduate programs, and Lifelong Learning classes. Her expertise spans all levels of proficiency, from absolute beginners to advanced learners, ensuring that students receive comprehensive and tailored instruction.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Hyun Kyung provides crucial support to the East Asian Team Leader. She actively guides and mentors the Korean teaching cohort, fostering a collaborative and innovative learning environment. She leads the development of the Korean language curriculum: sourcing and drafting novel course materials, setting examinations and continuous assessments, and enforcing robust academic standards.Hyun Kyung's contributions to the East Asian Languages Team extend beyond the classroom. She helps to shape departmental initiatives, and dedicates time to refining teaching methodologies and expanding opportunities for students to engage meaningfully with Korean language studies.

Beyond academia, Hyun Kyung is deeply involved in promoting East Asian cultural awareness at King's College London. She has been instrumental in organising numerous Korean workshops and cultural events, working closely with esteemed institutions such as the Korean Cultural Centre and the Korean Embassy in the UK. These provide students with immersive experiences that enhance their understanding of Korean traditions, history, and modern society.With a strong commitment to advancing Korean language education, Hyun Kyung seeks to inspire and empower her students. She believes in the importance of integrating cultural immersion with linguistic proficiency, encouraging learners to engage with Korean beyond textbooks and classrooms.
