Postdoctoral Research Associate

Biography

Italo is a Research Associate in the Department of War Studies, where he works on the British Academy-funded project The Production of Climate Justice, led by Dr Pauline Heinrichs and Dr Adam B. Lerner.

Italo is a critical theorist and a historian of global politics. His research traces the relations between the technoscientific dimension of war and security and their lived experiences, particularly in the context of racial and colonial violence. His current book project develops a theory of war experience that foregrounds the role of technology in shaping historical notions of an imperial international order. Among other topics, he is currently interested in the politics of scientific authority in international security and the connections between ecology and war. His work has been published in the European Journal of International Relations and International Political Sociology.

Before coming to King’s, Italo completed a PhD in Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge, where he also served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Cambridge Review of International Affairs (CRIA). He has taught modules on IR theory, history, and security at Cambridge and Queen Mary University of London.
