Biography
James gained his MChem from the University of East Anglia (UEA) in 2011, after which he remained to complete his PhD in synthetic organic chemistry under the supervision of Professor Phil Page and Dr Richard Stephenson. As part of the PhD funding, James had a short placement at École nationale supérieure d'ingénieurs de Caen (ENSICAEN) under Dr Annie-Claude Gaumont. Throughout his PhD, James was heavily involved in the instruction and training of undergraduate students, and it was this experience that led him to accept his first post-doctoral position, an equal parts teaching and research role, with Professor Andy Cammidge. This was followed by another Research Associate position in the School of Pharmacy under Professor Mark Searcey, where he discovered his interest for applying synthetic skills to the biological sciences.
James joined King’s as a Lecturer in Chemistry Education in 2019. His research looks at the application of synthetic organic methods to biological processes, and the improvement of student learning experiences using chemistry education practices.
