Senior Makerspace Technician

Biography

Jaye Barrington is a Senior Makerspace Technician in the Department of Engineering, King's College London. He is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Engineering teaching workshops and Makerspace facilities at the Strand Campus. In this role, Jaye provides specialist technical support to both academic staff and students, ensuring a safe, efficient, and engaging environment for hands-on learning in design, prototyping, and manufacturing.

With a background in Mechanical Engineering and a strong foundation in CAD and advanced manufacturing, Jaye bridges the gap between digital concepts and physical realisation. His expertise includes CNC machining, additive manufacturing (FDM and resin 3D printing), moulding processes, and laser cutting, supporting students from initial sketches through to fully functional prototypes.

Working collaboratively within the senior technical team and alongside academic and professional services colleagues, Jaye contributes to the delivery of practical teaching, the development of workshop procedures, and the continuous improvement of equipment standards, safety practices, and user training.

Driven by a passion for innovation and a longstanding interest in aviation and aerospace engineering, Jaye draws on experience in UAV design, structural testing, and rapid prototyping to foster creativity, problem-solving, and engineering excellence across the King’s community.
