Biography

Jess joined ECS in July 2018 after previous roles in King’s Business School, the Arts and Sciences Research Office, and the Departments of History and Classics. Prior to joining King’s Jess held various positions at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she also completed her BA and MA in the Department of English and Comparative Literature. In the rest of the week she is writing a PhD on gendered cultures of competition across the shift from the ‘ivory tower’ academy to contemporary neoliberal higher education in England, based at Lancaster University (Departments of Sociology and Educational Research).

Responsibilities

The School Research Manager coordinates and oversees the operational and administrative processes related to ECS research, in concert with the Director of Research and School Research Officer. Primary responsibilities of the SRM are:

  • Coordinating pre-award grant application processes, particularly advising on, supporting, and costing research funding proposals
  • Working collaboratively with research management colleagues within and outside the Faculty to maximise funding opportunities and refine processes;
  • Collecting, maintaining, and reporting research-related data
  • Supporting the Faculty research team and Unit of Assessment penholder in administration of the School’s Research Excellence Framework 2021 submission.
