Biography
Jiawen Wang is a PhD Candidate in Law at King’s College London, where he also teaches in the Dickson Poon School of Law and the Department of War Studies.
His doctoral research examines how gender is constructed and contested within international economic law (IEL), with a particular focus on trade and investment regimes. He analyses the historical absence and limited inclusion of gender in IEL, the institutional and geopolitical factors shaping these dynamics, and draws on feminist, queer, and intersectional approaches to propose alternative frameworks for social justice. His broader academic interests include public international law, legal feminism, and international dispute resolution. He holds an LL.M. in International Business Law from King’s College London and is a qualified lawyer in China. Alongside his research, Jiawen actively contributes to legal education and academic mentorship. As a moot court coach, he has supported King’s teams in international competitions, including the award-winning 2024 Day of Crisis Moot Competition.
