Joar Skalse is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Technical AI Safety in the Department of Informatics, King's College London. He was previously CEO of Deducto Limited, a startup he co-founded (2025-26). He received his DPhil in Computer Science from the University of Oxford in 2025, where he was supervised by Professor Alessandro Abate. During his DPhil, Joar was also a member of the Future of Humanity Institute.

Joar’s research focuses on technical AI safety, and especially on how to ensure that advanced AI systems remain reliable and aligned with their intended behaviour.
