Biography

Dr Suglo is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Better Health & Care Hub, King’s College London, jointly hosted by the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care (NMPC) and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN).

His research focuses on improving diabetes care and preventing diabetic foot ulcers through self-management and support from informal caregivers. He has a particular interest in global health, patient and family engagement in diabetes care, and the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in developing countries.

Joseph has clinical experience in both Ghana and the UK, where he worked as an Adult Nurse caring for patients with diabetes and endocrine conditions. At Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, he led service improvement initiatives that successfully integrated regular diabetic foot checks into routine acute care practices.

He is a former Commonwealth Shared Scholar and graduated with Distinction from the MSc in Advanced Nursing program at the University of Nottingham in 2018. In 2024, he completed his PhD at King’s College London as the inaugural recipient of the King’s Africa International PGR Scholarship. His doctoral thesis was titled “Improving Foot Self-Care for People with Diabetes in Ghana: Development and Feasibility Clinical Trial of a Family-Oriented Diabetic Foot Care Intervention.”

Joseph is also a member of a multi-national research team led by senior academics from King’s College London and the University of Warwick, which worked on the REmote Consulting in Healthcare (REaCH) project across six African countries. The team was awarded the NMPC Research Impact Award in 2023 for ensuring that research findings led to meaningful improvements in health systems.
