Biography

Kat Kmiotek-Caller is a Research Associate at King’s College London in the Professor Ajay Shah laboratory.

Her research is focused on the role of metabolic enzymes in the development of pathological cardiac hypertrophy. In her research, she utilises 2D and 3D in vitro models of human cardiac hypertrophy – induced pluripotent stem cells derived cardiomyocytes (iPS-CMs) and engineered heart tissues (EHTs).

Kat studied at Jagiellonian University in Krakow where she completed a BSc in Neuroscience, MSc degrees in Neuroscience and Biotechnology and a PhD in Biology.

During her PhD, she investigated procardiomyogenic and proangiogenic properties of extracellular vesicles derived from genetically modified human induced pluripotent stem cells.

Kat is an author of ten publications, one patent application, one preprint and five own scientific projects, as well as numerous abstracts on international conferences. She has an expertise in stem cell research and cardiac metabolism.
