Biography

Prior to her appointment at King’s, Lavanya was a researcher on the following projects:

  • A Leverhulme funded project called Adult Language Socialisation in the Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora in London which examined the multilingual development amongst Sri Lankan Tamil adults in diasporic contexts. (September 2015-2017, £225k) King's College London.
  • Funded by the French National Research Council, the LANGACROSS 2 involved an international team of researchers from France (National Centre for Scientific Research) and the United Kingdom (University of Cambridge). It investigated the development of spatial concepts in children from different language backgrounds within a wide European study (June 2014-15).
  • An ESRC funded project called Dialect Development and Style in a Diaspora Community (January 2008-2010, £400k), which involved quantitative and qualitative research methods in investigating inter-generational language practices amongst the Punjabi community in Southall. The project was a joint collaboration between King’s College London and Queen Mary, University of London.
