Leslie Wong
PhD student
Biography
Leslie Wong is a doctoral candidate in Comparative Literature at King’s College London who works on the adaptation and reception of Graeco-Roman mythology and Victorian literature in contemporary East and Southeast Asian novels, comics and video games. His thesis argues that we should understand postcolonial adaptation practices less as examples of belated mimicry or reactive “writing back” than self-sustaining modes of “writing through”. His research is funded by a three-year UK Research and Innovation studentship via the London Arts and Humanities Partnership. He was born and raised in the island nation of Singapore.
