Biography

Li Yang is a postdoctoral researcher at the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London. In March 2021, she has joined King’s College London ‘After Third Party Cookies - Consumer consent and data autonomy in the globalised AdTech industry’ research project, which was funded by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) research grants and led by Professor Perry Keller.

Dr Yang received a PhD in law from King’s College London, an LLM degree from London School of Economics and Political Science, and an LLB degree from China University of Political Science and Law. She is also a China qualified lawyer (Chinese Legal Professional Qualification) and holds a CIPP/E Certificate. Dr Yang’s research lies in the field of data protection law, with a focus on the Chinese data protection regime and the EU GDPR. She has published in various journals, including Hong Kong Law Journal and International Company and Commercial Law Review.

Her current research relates to the distinctions between the concepts of privacy and data protection, the ethical and proprietary values behind personal data, and the interactions between data protection law and corporate governance. Most recently, she is also interested in the intersection between data protection law and emergent AI regulations in China and the EU.
