Biography
Mairéad Hamill is a nephrology specialist registrar with an interest in obstetric nephrology and healthcare inequality from the Republic of Ireland. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2017, has undergone postgraduate training under the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and has completed a MSc in Healthcare Economics, Management and Policy at London School of Economics.
She is working as a clinical research fellow with the primary goal of delivering the PHYLLIS study. The PHYLLIS study is a NIHR- funded, multicentre, feasibility study which randomises postpartum individuals who had pregnancies complicated by gestational diabetes or hypertensive disorders of pregnancy to receive dapagliflozin for 26 weeks. This study prioritises individuals from underserved communities and incorporates strategies to improve recruitment and engagement including home testing, and peer educators.
Mairéad is undertaking a clinical PhD under the supervision of Dr Kate Bramham and Dr Antonio de Marvao to investigate microvascular disease in the postpartum period including novel assessments and potential for reversibility to reduce long-term cardiovascular and chronic kidney disease.
