
Biography
Manuela von Papen joined King’s College London Language Centre in 2014. She completed the Staatsexamen für das Lehramt an Gymnasien at Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany (1987), and was awarded a PhD from the University of Bath (1998) for her research on the depiction of women in Third Reich entertainment films. She speaks German, English, and French.
Originally from Germany, Manuela has taught German at several universities in the UK, including the University of Bath and the University of Glamorgan, before joining King’s College London. At King’s, she teaches across the Short Courses (Evening Classes) programme, delivering modules to students from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds.
Her teaching approach combines communicative and intercultural methodologies, encouraging active participation and cultural reflection in the language classroom.
Manuela’s academic interests lie in the fields of language pedagogy, cultural memory, and film studies. She continues to explore how cultural narratives and visual media contribute to the understanding of identity and history in language learning contexts.
